Description –

Vajra Eco Resort is a resort build in a green concept with a destination in itself with development of nice accommodation, restaurant facilities, conference hall, SPA and renewable technology demonstration centre.

Vajra Eco Resort has been promoted by the promoters who are involved in Sustainable and Renewable energy since long time in different countries.

The team has also constructed the Vajra School which is first eco school of Nepal.

Vajra Eco Resort is a Sustainable Tourist hotel facility with spa, organic farming, and herbal plantations. Overlooking the khasa and Tibetan mountain range through the giant majestic hills, the resort site is blessed with both the visual and aural beauty of the mighty bhotekoshi river and numerous brooks flowing through the hills. The project has a very high financial potential as there is currently a lack of exquisitetourist’s stay- space in that region.

The resort is incorporating whole community in the economic development and renewable energy system by developing local home stays, organic farming trainings and also a first Solar Trek of the World which includes all the energy management during the trek by solar energy.

The design team included number of architects led by Green Tree from Nepal, Holand, France, Switzerland and India.


 Materials used –

Vajra has focused in use of local materials including green materials as most as possible.

The materials are selected to articulate the firm’s philosophy of green design, contextual approach, sustainable construction, vernacular approach and sustainable project development as a whole. Brick made up from waste products from the stone quarry, have been used for the construction of building envelope and interior partitions in all the buildings inside the campus. Stones have been used for retaining structures and roofs too. Stone roofs with wooden struts and stone pavements have been used to encourage local craftsmanship. Locally made hollow blocks have also been used in staff quarters and interior partition.

Cow sheds and other smaller structure to support the farmland, have been constructed out of earth-bag and hemps.

Yurts have been made up of green and sustainable materials such as wooden battens, felts of sheep furs as an insulating material, and canvas layer for water proofing and also traditional outlook of colon linen. Local materials and construction technology have been adopted.

Local grasses and vegetation have been planted throughout the landscape to retain mud and create different levels within the area applying bio engineering.

Energy concept / Features -

The resort has managed to promote alternative and renewable energy and also use of less energy systems too.

For electricity, hydro power, wind turbine and bio Diesel generator and also solar PVs.

For cooking, 42m dia. (world’s biggest) Solar cooker, biogas, Prince 60 Solar Cooker, SK 14 and also LPG to bridge the Gap.

For Room Heating, Infrared low energy consumption floor heating.

For Lights, all LED.


Sustainability -

It is sustainable as all the sustainable technologies, vernacular building materials, building materials from waste including reused wood, stabilized bricks, organic farming of itself and community has be incorporated. The resort has promoted all the local labours and also trained them to get good workmanship. It has used Yurts which is eco-friendly and modular too which do not require damage of current topography.

The resort has been designed in such a way to preserve all the natural property of the land and architecture suiting the local vernacular design.

It is sustainable as it has focused in eco-friendly and environment friendly materials preserving environment and ecology of the site. It has promoted building materials from waste like furniture from waste wood and also reuse of old furniture. It will promote sustainable living and retreat in sustainable building.

The resort promotes local art, craftsmanship in sustainable environment.


Architecture -

The Resort has been built for human accommodation considering environment friendly design in a vernacular method with all necessary comfort level required and all the services. It is not just a building like other, it consists several buildings, its peripheral and energy system which acts as demonstration and experimental laboratory for others.

This is a initiation made in high risk in initial phase due to incorporation of innovative materials, design and energy system.

It is new innovation through built space towards protecting environment, tourism, community strengthening and society.

Tourists will not only stay there will experience sustainability and learn about contributing towards our mother earth through protecting environment and also promotion of renewable energy.
